Katarina Wit started skating when she was age five. Her talents soon became evident as she enrolled to a private school that caters for kids with a flair for sport in Karl-Marx-Stadt. This was where she was introduced to her coach Jutta Muller. Witt was able to make her debut year in 1982, when she finished second at the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Since then the elegance and grace of her skating caught everyone's attention. Her dominance began in the sport. Olympic Success In the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for figure skating in women's after a fiercely contested contest. In a more competitive competition, the following year, Witt took home her gold medal. The free skater lost however, she took home the gold medal in the mandatory figures and her short programme. Witt was the first female to win in both women's and men's figure-skating in the past since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt, who had achieved success in film as an actor, returned for figure skating, competed at Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. People were captivated by her despite her having was seventh. In 1995, Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
